"Yarmouk" Organizes an Open Day on its Contribution to Sustainable Community Service.

Representing the President of Yarmouk University, Dr. Abdalbaset Othmaneh, Director of the Queen Rania Center for Jordanian Studies and Community Service and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development Studies, inaugurated the activities of the open day under the slogan "Yarmouk University and Sustainable Community Service." The event was organized by the Queen Rania Center for Jordanian Studies and Community Service in cooperation with the Center for Sustainable Development Studies, with the participation of the Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine, the Deanship of Student Affairs at the university, charitable societies, and civil society organizations concerned with volunteer work, in celebration of International Volunteer Day.

Dr. Othmaneh highlighted the role played by Yarmouk University in serving the local community, volunteer work, and the various initiatives launched by the university that have had a positive impact on its local and regional surroundings.

In a speech delivered at the opening of the open day activities, he added that the organization of this day coincided with International Volunteer Day, which falls on the fifth of December each year, appreciating the effective partnership between the various units of the university in organizing activities that add to the university's achievements and enhance its vision and mission in accordance with its strategic plan.

Dr. Othmaneh pointed out that volunteer work is an established approach since the founding of the Jordanian state, and it is a cumulative effort that was crowned in 2021 when His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II launched the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Work and the Jordanian Charter for Voluntary Work. This charter aims to regulate the relationship between volunteers and voluntary entities and defines ethical principles and human values. He noted that the charter sought to consolidate the values of active citizenship and belonging, transparency and equality, equal opportunities, respect for privacy and diversity, credibility, trust, sincerity, perseverance, teamwork and partnership, working without compensation, initiative, and sacrifice.

The open day included a specialized seminar on the voluntary efforts of Yarmouk University and some charitable societies, in which the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Fadia Miyas, Dr. Alaa Yahya, Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Department representing the Joint Education Committee between Medical Professions of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mr. Hassan Smeirat, Head of the Scouting and Camps Department at the university, Mr. Essam Assaf, representative of the Aid Hand Society for Relief and Development, Mr. Yousef Hawari, Head of the Al-Muqri Neighborhood Charity Association, and Mr. Khaldoun Asfa, General Manager of the Al-Afaq Charitable Society for Education, spoke.

The speakers highlighted Yarmouk University's role in raising public awareness among students about the importance of volunteer work and serving the local community. Representatives of the societies also reviewed their establishment and their role in promoting the concepts of volunteer work and its importance in the fields of social welfare, orphans, and education.

The day also included a free exhibition of various medical services provided by the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy, which included blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight measurements, nutritional awareness, skin problems, and awareness on how to handle medications, in addition to a display of some traditional handicrafts presented by the participating societies.

The open day activities were attended by a number of faculty and administrative staff, students, and members of the local community.
