Yarmouk University’s Sustainable Development Studies Center Hosts Dialogue on Irbid as the Economic Capital of the North
IRBID – Under the patronage of the President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Malik Al-Sharairi, the Sustainable Development Studies Center (SDSC) organized a dialogue session to discuss a public policy paper titled: "From Centralization to Balance: Irbid as a Model for the Economic Capital in Northern Jordan." The paper was developed by the SDSC in strategic partnership with the Irbid Chamber of Industry, attended by a distinguished group of experts, academics, and representatives from the economic and developmental sectors.
In his opening keynote, Prof. Al-Sharairi emphasized the significance of this scientific and intellectual forum as a practical milestone in exploring economic development for Irbid and the Northern Region. He highlighted the necessity of investing in real potential to ensure social prosperity, reaffirming the university’s commitment to Royal Directives aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable development across all sectors.
Prof. Al-Sharairi further expressed the university’s aspiration to establish a clear, institutional mechanism with partners from the public and private sectors to follow up on the session’s recommendations. He stressed the importance of translating these discussions into practical initiatives and development programs aligned with national priorities. He reaffirmed that Yarmouk University is ready to be an active partner by harnessing its academic and research expertise to support the digital economy, stimulate innovation, and empower entrepreneurship to create high-quality, sustainable jobs for Jordanian youth.
The Director of the Center, Prof. Muhammad Bani Salameh, noted that the SDSC is dedicated—in line with the university’s mission—to producing research papers that serve the community and address developmental imbalances rather than just describing them.
